Get involved - support Lakes Park! Volunteer, donate, join the team

Enhancing the beauty and experience of Lakes Park takes “work, wealth, and wisdom”. You can get involved and support Lakes Park and the Foundation’s mission in a multitude of ways.

Volunteers working in the children's garden at Lakes Park

Volunteers take pride in keeping the gardens at Lakes Park in tip-top shape.

Volunteers are the very backbone of our ability to carry out the Foundation’s mission. We call our volunteers “Lakes Park Ambassadors” because of their tendency to share their passion and knowledge with park visitors. We’re also eager to work with organizations such as schools, businesses, youth groups, and religious organizations seeking community service opportunities. Popular volunteer assignments include:

  • GARDEN AMBASSADORS: cultivating the gardens, propagating new plants, leading botanical garden tours

  • INFORMATION AMBASSADORS: operating the information centers at the Nest and at the Farmer’s Market

  • SCARECROWS AMBASSADORS:  encouraging visitors to vote in the People’s Choice competition at Scarecrows in the Park, the only free attraction at the annual Lakes Park Fall Festival – costumes highly encouraged!

  • STORYTIME in the GARDEN AMBASSADORS: reading to the pre-school set and their parents in the Children’s Garden; leading activities such as garden exploration and craft projects.

The first step to becoming a Lakes Park Ambassador is to register with Lee County Volunteer Services.  LINK:

If you think you’d like to talk with someone about a particular volunteer assignment prior to registration, please feel free to drop us an email at and we will put you in touch with the right person.

The Foundation is able to support park programs and improvements through grants, sponsorships, and through donations from generous supporters like you. We offer many ways to give at all levels, such as:

  • Bench Dedication Program – We’re slowly but surely upgrading the park’s aging benches by offering park patrons the opportunity to dedicate them. Find out more about the Bench Dedication Program by clicking here.

  • Brick Dedication Program – There are three popular spots where park patrons can donate an engraved brick. Commemorate a loved one or a special occasion and come back often to “visit your brick”. Find out more about the Brick Dedication Program by clicking here.

  • General Donations and Matching Gifts – We are grateful to accept donations however you’d like to make them. You can use a credit card or write a check, designate your donations for a favorite project, or attend our fundraising events. Here are some of the ways in which people like you have been supporting Lakes Park and the Foundation’s work there:

    • Fundraising Events – The Foundation currently produces two fundraising events per year – Scarecrows in the Park at the Lakes Park Fall Festival, and our Spring Gala, held at Amavida Living just outside the park. We partner with business sponsors, collect auction items and experiences, and recruit participants to ensure maximum community engagement in these events.  Want to know more about such opportunities? • The PayPal Giving Fund – if you’d like to make a general donation by credit card, click here for further information.

    • The Lakes Park Giving Tree – Perhaps the most affordable donation levels are what we call “The Giving Tree”. Here’s where you can get specific about how your donations will be used. Support the purchase of soil and other necessities for maintenance of the Park’s gardens, help us to send the Lakes Park summer camp kids to special STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or help us pay for the new musical equipment coming to the Children’s Garden (January 2020). Click here to visit The Giving Tree online.

    • Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) – Making charitable contributions directly from your IRA account can help you to satisfy minimum distribution requirements. Read more about it on the IRS website, and consult with your financial adviser to determine if making a QCD to the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation is the right thing for you.

    • Matching Gift Programs –  Many corporations are eager to make donations to qualified charities that often match those of their employees dollar for dollar. However you decide to give, do ask your employer if they have a matching gift program.

Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation Board Meeting

The Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation Board of Directors meets on the third Friday of every month at Amavida Living.

Non-profits need people well-versed in the basic business disciplines, just like for-profit businesses. Expertise is needed in finance, legal, strategic planning, fundraising, operations, technology, and marketing. While some of these services are contracted out, many are provided by passionate individuals willing to serve as volunteer board members and committee chairs.
